Is "Picnic" a racist word?

It's been called to my attention that some people get in an uproar when they hear the word "picnic."  The story is that it's a racist term, and should not be used.  This was news to me.  So I checked it out.

It turns out to be a hoax.  Perhaps it's partly an attempt to stir up racial friction--I don't know.  But I do know now that "picnic" is not a racist term.
